My Favorite Holiday Cookie

My mom’s birthday is December 14.  Today, we all got together to celebrate, with a brunch (mom’s choice).  We brought a lot of the treats that we’ve produced this week to share.  They have all been fun to make and great to eat (with notable exceptions).  But being with my family today reminded me of my favorite holiday cookie…Toffee Bars from the classic Betty Crocker cookbook.

When I was a kid, my mom made toffee bars every year.  She’d make one pan with walnuts on, and one without walnuts.  Since we’ve been married, the Chief Cookie Chef has been good to me and made at least one batch every year.  Today, since there is no cookie-a-day recipe delivery from the Pioneer Press on weekends, there is a batch of Toffee Bars baking in the oven.
